While the church sleeps

Colin Johnson

Dear Editor,

I am writing in response to the article in ‘While the Church the November en, sleeps…’, as I’m worried that we as evangelical Christians can lose our sense of balance and forget who our real enemy is. I am as concerned as the author is with the pan-sexual revolution happening in society and as an activist myself I’d love to campaign against it, but I am reminded of the Scripture that says our struggle is not against flesh and blood (Ephesians 6.12). It’s also important to remember that Paul is warning against judging and says what business of mine is it to judge those outside the church (1 Corinthians 5.12).

Christian counselling

Dear Editor,

I agree with the main point Steve Midgley was making in his column ‘C is for Counselling’ (en Jan 2016), that the church should not feel pastoral care is second best to secular counselling and that we need to leave valuable emotional support to the ‘experts’. I believe strongly in using the Bible as the basis of Christian living and pastoral ministry. I have been to one of the Biblical Counselling UK conferences and think their teaching is excellent.

Outreach and visiting

Dear Editor,

I was encouraged to see the article ‘The Power of Love’ in the July en on the role of the local church in evangelism, but object to the way that door-to-door evangelism and leaflet distribution is dismissed as outmoded.

Mission field on the doorstep

Colin Johnson

I know of a woman living in a large town who is suffering from terminal cancer, has few friends, no family close, is very isolated and in need of friendship and support.

I am sure that every true Christian would want to reach out to her to offer friendship, prayer and the encouragement of the gospel. Unfortunately, this has not happened. Sadly, this lady lives in a small bedsit just around the corner from a large shiny new church and they know nothing of her or she of them! Are there many others like this lady on our doorsteps who are not reached? What can be done?
