As life in the UK starts to return to something more resembling the ‘old normal’, one question that churches are asking is what impact the past three years have had on evangelism – and new research by Christianity Explored Ministries (CEM) has some encouraging findings.

It turns out that many Christians didn’t let lockdown prevent them from sharing their faith, writes Daisy Addington. In particular, nearly 75% of the 250 users of CEM resources surveyed reported giving a Christian book to one or more of their non-Christian friends, with 23% of respondents having given away five or more books since 2019.

A recent survey has revealed that more than 300 churches in the UK have been running Christianity Explored courses online since the pandemic began.

Those responding to the survey were very positive about the experience, despite many having had reservations about how effective it would be to run a course remotely.

Many churches in the UK have been using the various evangelistic courses developed by Christianity Explored Ministries for several years. There are an increasing number of countries who now have access to them in their native languages.

Following the launch of Christianity Explored (CE) in Albania in May, the evangelistic course has had a major impact across the nation.

Christianity Explored Ministries (CEM) announced in June a major new link up with Prison Fellowship International (PFI) where the Christianity Explored course will form a key part of PFI’s strategy of taking the gospel to prisoners throughout the world, with two pilot projects launched in Nigeria and South Africa.

PFI was founded in 1979. Its network of 45,000 volunteers currently undertakes monthly prison ministry with 2million inmates in 3,700 prisons in 127 countries. There are an estimated 10 million inmates in 22,000 jails across the world. The Prisoner’s Journey, PFI’s new, three-strand evangelism programme (of which Christianity Explored is the core part) aims to reach 1 million of these prisoners with the gospel by 2020.
