Australia: bullying in gay marriage vote
Churchgoers have been urged
to vote
against redefining marriage in Australia, as
16 million
citizens
are balloted
from
September to November in the postal survey.
The result will be non-binding, but is likely
to produce a change in legislation if the people
vote ‘yes’ to the question: ‘Should the law be
changed to allow same-sex couples to marry?’
Protection?
Campaigners
criticised
the
Scottish
Government in late November for scrapping
an expert committee on the implementation
of the Named Person (NP) legislation, set to
come into force next year, at the point it raised
valid child protection risks which contradicted government aims for the NP scheme.
Minutes from a meeting of the GIRFEC
(Getting
It
Right
For
Every
Child)
Programme Board last year have revealed that
Police Scotland
‘raised
issues
surrounding
ensuring high-risk children remained a focus’.
