Mike Matthews considers what seems to be behind the government’s approach
It was a veiled attack, but still very much an attack.
Amanda Spielman, Chief Inspector of Schools, in her speech to a Church of England foundation, quoted Psalm 119, commending leaders who focus their schools on teaching ‘knowledge and good judgment’. But she also said that ‘Ofsted inspectors are increasingly brought into contact with those who want to actively pervert the purpose of education.’ Since Psalm 119 is all about the Word of God, one would therefore assume that these people would be those who wish to undermine knowledge and pervert good judgment by removing or twisting God’s Word. But no – the target is those who ‘actively undermine fundamental British values or equalities law.’1
