Perry shot to fame in 2008 with the controversial and infuriatingly catchy track ‘I Kissed a Girl’: ‘I kissed a girl just to try it […] / It felt so wrong, it felt so right’. The song was deliberately provocative, but was even more so for those who recognised the singer as Katy Hudson, an artist who had previously released an album of Christian gospel music.
