JONATHAN EDWARDS
The Holy Spirit in Revival
By Michael Haykin. Evangelical Press. 228 pages
ISBN 0 85234 599 2

Michael Haykin’s Jonathan Edwards: The Holy Spirit in Revival is a fine piece of writing indeed.

Sure-footedly surveying the historical data, Haykin constantly brings home the lessons of Edwards and revival in a most helpful and edifying way. Revival suffers these days by its association with the crazies, and Michael Haykin has done a great service to us all by outlining Edwards’s vision for revival, not that it is an almost never-occurring event, but that it is an experience of God central to his means of advancing the kingdom, and which may be fuelled by the Word and prayer.
