This little book takes a simple acrostic used as a guide by many in their prayer lives and breathes new life into it. Reggie Weems starts by focussing on the person of the one to whom we pray.

We pray as an expression of our dependence on Him. We pray in response to His invitation, understanding our human need and frailty. He then goes on to explore the ACTS acrostic: Adoration, Confession, Thanksgiving and Supplication.

In adoration we give God praise for who He is. To miss out on this aspect of prayer can result in great discouragement if all we do is to repeatedly recite our problems, rather than focus on what a great God we have.

Confession is as necessary to the Christian life as the ‘trash can’ is to the kitchen. An unemptied trash can stinks! Confession removes hindrances and restores fellowship with God as we view sin as God views it.

Thanksgiving differs from adoration in that it is praising God for his promises in Scripture and his work in our lives. When life is tough and circumstances seem to belie his care, thanksgiving lifts us to a true understanding of who he is.

Supplication is seeking God’s will for ourselves and for others as we ask for what conforms to his will. Praying in Jesus’s name is discovering God’s will and praying according to it.

This book as very accessible and would be helpful to young Christian establishing their prayer life, as well as to the mature who want to deepen their prayer life. I have been so impressed by this book that we are going to use it in our next one-to-one discipleship groups.
